Mark-makers

mark-making* website going mobile

Wednesday, 29 February 2012 00:00

Mobile development

March will see the mark-making* website go mobile, and over the last month Matt and Shannon have been working flat out on its optimization. It’s involved lots of invaluable learning (and plenty of pulling hair out) and we’ve carried out some really useful research into user preferences and behavior on different types of device - all available to pass onto our clients. (Think of us as a kind of giant guinea pig.)

The new mark-making* site will be able to detect what type of device you’re viewing on (PC, ipad or mobile) and deliver optimized content for your delight and delictation.

mark-making* sponsors Prime Minister’s football club

David Cameron’s constituency football team, Chadlington FC U11s, is now proudly wearing the mark-making logo on their shirts.  We’re hoping to see the Prime Minister cheering the boys on from the touchline in the not too distant future.

Perhaps ‘We’re all in this together’ will join ‘You’ll never walk alone’ in the repertoire of football anthems.

100 years young

Tuesday, 24 January 2012 00:00

There’s lots going on this summer with the Olympics and Jubilee on the horizon. But at mark-making* we’re looking forward to celebrating an altogether different event - the centenary of Lafarge Cement’s Aberthaw Works in South Wales. And we’re about to start work on a fascinating book to help mark the occasion.

To kickstart the project Steve, Dean and Lisa headed off on a fact-finding trip to the Works. During their visit the plant was on a maintenance shutdown so they were given a rare ‘Access all areas’ pass to see right inside the furnace and all around the plant. Rumours of a plot to abandon Steve deep inside the kiln are unconfirmed.

We’re currently working with Lafarge to pull together everything we need to bring the history of the site to life - including archive material and interviews with past employees, right through to the current day. We’ll keep you updated.

Keep on running (puffing and hobbling)

Our resident runner Nic has started 2012 on a mission: to get the mark-makers fit. And her new lunchtime running club is already, err, up and running. Already seen pounding the streets of OX7 with Nic are David, Russ and Mike (although David is now conveniently nursing “a niggle”).

Only a month in, our runners are already reaching distances of up to three miles in a single lunchtime. Of course, they’re under strict instructions to ensure they leave enough time to be back at their desks by 2pm...

New digital designer Shannon helps us go mobile

new digital designer Shannon

mark-making* is always looking for new talent. And this time we only had to look just over the Cotswold hills to find Shannon, our new Digital designer/developer.

He joins us with innovative ideas backed by a raft of experience and is currently working on a mobile version of this website - so with Shannon’s help you can have all our latest news (and even your own website) in your pocket as well as on your PC.
