Christmas competition brings sunshine, laughter and love

This Christmas we devised an interactive, online competition based on famous TV Specials and festive films, with the mark-makers replacing actors in famous scenes.

The website was designed, written and built entirely in-house and clearly captured the imagination, achieving a staggering 259 unique visitors and 111 entries. The prize was £500 to a charity of the winner’s choice plus a bottle of champagne for the winner themselves.

One of the most popular images was of Ali and Steve in bed together, standing in for Eric and Ernie. Although we’re yet to discover who, if anyone, has short, fat hairy legs.

New website gets off to great start

Woodhouse design and manufacture signage, exterior lighting and street furniture. They also source the most inspirational, innovative and cutting edge products in urban realm from all over the world. So they have an expert eye for detail – and know a thing or two about good design.

The new website was one element in a broader brand and brand identity development exercise. Woodhouse wanted their new website to increase traffic through improved SEO, search functionality and to provide a blog of relevant industry articles.

The requirements

A key requirement of the project was to build a an easy to manage and search directory for the extensive product range and projects, with the following features:

  • Live search, product filtering and mega menus.
  • Search suggestions for related products and projects.
  • User-generated collections of products
  • Comparison functionality for product technical specifications.
  • Downloadable technical documents and high-resolution photographs.

The result

Mark-making* built the website using Magento – an industry-standard ecommerce system –modified to Woodhouse’s specific requirements. After a few weeks of the site being up and running results include:

  • Visits increased by 30%
  • Average page views doubled
  • Pages per visit doubled
  • Bounce rate reduced by 20%
  • Time on site increased by 25%

High street jeweller’s biggest-ever Christmas campaign

Family-run jewellery firm F.Hinds is a well-established fixture on the British high street, with over a hundred branches around the UK and a strong reputation for quality.

mark-making* has been working on Hinds store brochures and point-of-sale marketing for nearly a decade, and the challenge for Christmas 2010 was to push that brand collateral through to the online and digital environment and create a fully integrated marketing campaign.
