mark-making* welcomes hockey keeper and downhill mountain biker

June 2010

mark-making* welcomes two new starters. Chris Purnell is our new artworker, who comes to us from Golley Slater.

Chris will be handling everything that goes towards making a design just right for print: colours, fonts, settings and everything in between. In his spare time, Chris is a hockey goalkeeper and we hope he’ll be our last line of defence against any production problems.  His hands-on experience in print production (including time setting up plates in an Abergavenny print shop) gives him all the knowledge he needs for this part of the job.

As well as tearing it up on the hockey field, Chris enjoys model engineering and looking after two 8-month-old kittens.

Matt Reid is taking on a web developer role. Outside work, Matt is a fanatical downhill mountain biker who gets out into the hills most weekends and competes around the country.

He will be writing code, designing websites and creating Flash animations. It’s a challenging mixture of creative work and nitty-gritty coding, but Matt’s varied background will allow him to hit the ground running. He has experience of editorial, desktop publishing, Flash design, web programming and graphic design for both web and print, so he’s equipped to handle anything the job can throw at him. We’re also hoping he knows how to sort out printer jams…

Steve Turner, creative director of mark-making*, said: “Our saying, ‘The idea is king, but delivery rules’, basically recognises the importance of fulfilling an idea’s potential. Chris and Matt will help ensure the delivery element is stronger than ever and we’re delighted to welcome them to the team.”
